Enology & Wine &Viticulture
I was born in a small town in the southwest of China. After finishing my Master degree on Biology at Texas Tech, I continue to pursue my Ph.D. degree specializing in Enology and Viticulture in the Department of Plant and Soil Science. I plan to become a professor or specialist upon graduating from Tech in the fall of 2012. I strongly look forward to using my professional attributes for the development of the Texas wine industry. Currently, I am continuing to take enology graduate courses and working on a project titled Predicting Wine Quality by Using Data Mining Technologies on Historical or Experiment Database in Dr. Brent Trela' lab. Meanwhile, I am also involved in winemaking activities in the lab to become familiar with winemaking operations, from pressing grapes to bottling finished wine, as well as conducting chemical compound analysis throughout this process. I am very happy about what I am doing now. I hope my dream could come true in near future.

I am a Ph.D. candidate specializing in Enology and Viticulture in the Department of Plant & Soil Science at Texas Tech University. I completed my undergraduate studies in Horticulture at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China and decided to come to Texas to study winemaking. In Dr. Trela’s lab I work on issues affecting the Texas wine industry such as post harvest conditions and treatments that improve wine quality. I also work on more fundamental issues such as control of browning and wine oxidation. Previously I have worked on charitable and environmental sustainability projects in China through two non-profit organizations during 2005 to 2009. I also enjoy concurrently studying and taking courses in Philosophy to provide a social science balance to the natural sciences that are my major.

I am currently working on my Masters of Horticulture with a specialty in Enology and Viticulture under Dr. Brent Trela. My area of research is the Effects of Phytic Acid on Commercial White Wines. I completed my Bachelors of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Texas Tech, Lubbock, TX in 2009. While working at Pheasant Ridge as office and tasting room manager, I fell in love with wines, the wine industry and wine making. I was able to stay at Texas Tech to continue my education in wine under Dr. Trela. I continue to manage Pheasant Ridge while raising two children and assisting a local brew master at a local brew pub as often as possible.
